I don't like people
Except for ones who don't talk
About the weather

Tell me about Haiku? It seems very important to you, and you are good at it. What are the rules? I could look it up, but maybe telling me would even be helpful to you? I love to learn from people I trust.

It's a form of Japanese poetry. I have to confess that I'm only following the two basic rules of the American version of it: it has to be three lines and the first line must be in five beats, the second line must be in seven beats, and the third line must be in five beats. Although some other rules say that it can't be over seventeen beats (which more closely follows the original Japansese versions) and it can be any number of sentences (just not over three).

There are other rules such as nature, etc. but I'm not using them. I've always been drawn to haiku because I'm such a wordy person, I like the idea of trying to condense my thoughts into simple statements.

The Japanese forms are really beautiful and follow age-old rules regarding nature and conflict. Because of the different meter of the Japanese language, it's usually shorter than the American versions.

Wikipedia actually has a great article on haiku and it's history including some real examples of it (unlike what you're reading here, haha!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/haiku.html
